A Royal Visit

Friday saw royalty visiting the MediaCityUK complex on Salford Quays. This wasn’t just any royalty however, as MediaCity was being officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen.

The opening was part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour in which Manchester and Salford were both visited by Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh. Fans of the Royal family and well-wishers were seen gathering from around 9am on Salford Quays in anticipation for the 11.40am visit.

The Queen was welcomed by a rapturous applause as cars drew up close to outside BBC’s quays house and Peel building. The Duke meanwhile was officially opening the University of Salford’s official building also based on the MediaCity complex.

After opening the site, a mile run for Sport Relief was also opened by Her Majesty with ribbons and balloons being raised into the air as a charitable race began.

It was nice to see the excitement and laughter around the complex with MediaCity really coming out of its shell and feeling alive to welcome its very special, royal guest.
